SWFY Scholarship: Opportunities to overcome adversity
Adversity can be difficult to face, especially when pursuing higher education. However, the SWFY Scholarship provides a unique opportunity for individuals who need financial assistance. This article aims to provide complete information about the SWFY Scholarship, its criteria and application process, as well as focusing on the Sally Swift Scholarship Fund (SSSF).
In 2003, the Sally Swift Scholarship Fund was established with the primary objective of offering financial assistance to individuals involved in centered riding. These scholarships support a variety of categories, including new focused riding instructors, instructors looking to upgrade, clinic organizers, and symposium participants. These scholarships were started after Sally Swift’s death and are now administered by the SSSF Foundation.
The SWFY Scholarship, available in 2023, includes six Instructor Scholarships and two Refresher Clinic and New Instructor Course Organizer grants, each valued at $400 USD. Two different types of scholarships are available: scholarships for individual teachers and clinical course administrators.
The scholarships are open to students from Europe and North and South America, covering all continents outside of Europe. Candidates are evaluated based on their commitment to centered ridings and financial need.

Organizer grants are available for people running new Centered Riding Instructor courses or updated clinics in 2023. Only two grants are available for this year. One grant for courses/clinics in Europe and the other for courses/clinics in North and South America, including all continents outside of Europe. These grants, valued at $400 each, are awarded based on financial need and commitment to centered ridings. Organizers should note that clinics or courses that generate more than $1,000 USD in profit are not eligible for this scholarship.
For both scholarships and organizer grants, the application deadline is March 1, 2024. Applications received after this date or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Applicants expect to receive notification of their eligibility for the program within one week of submission.
To apply for the SWFY Scholarship, candidates must complete the application with all the required details. Additionally, they must include a letter explaining their commitment to Centered Riding and their financial need for the grant.
The SWFY Individual Instructor Scholarship is open to both aspiring and already certified horsemanship instructors. Candidates must have paid their current membership dues and updated their membership for the current year. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s commitment and financial need for the Centered Riding.
Candidates must provide the following information to the Centered Riding Office by the last date of application.
